Alsager 5 2023
The Alsager 5 mile race started in 1985 and was called the Butters 5 starting and finishing outside the estate agents town centre premises .Always held on the first Sunday in February. Popular from day one as entries continued to grow it was time to move the race HQ to the Leisure Centre one mile down the road. This happened in 1991 and the race stills starts and finishes at the Leisure Centre. The number of entries continued to climb and now has a 1000 limit which is always reached with race full signs happening before race day. A flat fast course Alsager is ideal to see how your winter training has gone or if you have just taken up running this is a great first race as it attracts all abilities and all are welcome . This race not only attracts local runners but also runners from outside the area . It is also the curtain raiser to North Staffs Road Runners first race of the season. Things got easier for the organisers in 2014 when chip timing was introduced, we sometimes wonder how we managed when it was manual timing with runners finishing one a second and using our 3 lane system. One sponsor needs to be named who have been involved sine 1991 and that is Afford Rent A Car. Tony Moore and Tony Dobson thank you |

GB international winner of Alsager 5 2013 I have run the race a few times when I was up and coming and it was a brilliant stepping stone for me particularly at the beginning of 2013 when I was coming back from an injury.. In my mind it was always a presigious race I wanted to win and finally pulled it off that year by 1 sec!..This gave me huge confidence for the cross country season ahead.. It is and a good grounding for elite club runners wanting to make the step to international level with it being flat and fast honest course. |

non club runner Alsager 5 was my first race of this distance so I took the option of a pacer; a couple of miles in I realised what a great course it was for a good time so I decided to speed up. The support was amazing and I was really spurred on with the friendliness (my stripy socks were commented on a lot!) and encouragement. Ended a fantastic race with a dramatic sprint finish and fully intend to return this year and smash my previous time! |
